About Aspen
How it started
Good coffee starts with curiosity.
Aspen Coffee Co. started with a simple curiosity: how can something as familiar as coffee have so much variety, complexity, and character?
That curiosity turned into a hobby, then a fascination with roasting, and eventually a small coffee roastery in Pittsburgh. What began as a way to better understand coffee became something I wanted to share with others.
Along the way, I learned that great coffee is about far more than what ends up in your cup.
Behind every coffee are people making countless decisions. Farmers growing and harvesting the cherries, producers carefully processing them, and communities whose knowledge and traditions shape the coffees we enjoy. Visiting coffee farms in Honduras brought that into focus for me in a way that reading about coffee never could.
Today, Aspen is built around that same curiosity. I roast in small batches, experiment constantly, and try to approach every coffee with the care and attention it deserves. Not to chase a particular roast style or tasting score, but to bring out what makes each coffee special.
Because great coffee isn't just about how it tastes. It's about the people, places, and stories that make it possible.

What we believe
Coffee Is Human
Every coffee starts with people: producers, pickers, processors, roasters, brewers, and the person drinking it. Aspen exists to make that chain feel less invisible and to connect the cup back to the land, labor, and decisions that shaped it.
Curiosity Over Gatekeeping
We care about origin, variety, process, roast, and brewing, but those things should open coffee up, not close people out. Specialty coffee is at its best when it helps people notice more, taste more, and feel invited in.
The Cup Comes First
Stories, tasting notes, and technique matter, but they should serve the experience of drinking the coffee. At Aspen, we roast with intention, share what we are learning, and keep the focus where it belongs: on a coffee that feels thoughtful, approachable, and worth paying attention to.
